Get that Summer Glow, From Head to Toe

The outdoor lifestyle and heat of summer has skin care on many people’s minds. Few leave the house without sunscreen, but high SPF shouldn’t be your only skin care concern – healthy summer skin goes much further than that.

 1. Get your vitamins. Of course vitamins have benefits for your health, and vitamins A, C, E and K have qualities that specifically help improve skin’s appearance. So think of the produce section of your grocery store as a new skin care store.

 2. Exfoliate for clearer, smoother skin. Exfoliation removes dry, dead skin and keeps pores from being clogged to prevent congestion as well as improving hydration from moisturizer.

In addition to the immediate visual benefits of exfoliation, the removal of dead skin cells speeds up the skin renewal process, allowing smoother, healthier skin cells to take their place. Not only will this help with fine lines and wrinkles, but it will help to ease discoloration as well.

 3. Turn down the temperature. A long, hot shower certainly feels great, but it can lead to not-so-great feelings later, when your skin is dry, itchy and flaky because all that hot water dried it out. Keep in mind that you should turn down the heat when washing your face, too.

 4. Keep your skin hydrated. Increase the level of hydration with intensive masks, using them one to two times a week. Toners are also a refreshing moisturizer prep, working to even out skin. Toners can help you replace vital moisture and bind it to the skin.
